We received a call from homeowner Susan, who had discovered a large bee's nest underneath the 2nd story floorboards in her Yeppoon home. We were asked if we could remove such a thing as Susan had been unable to find a tradesperson who was willing to remove a nest still containing live bees. We accepted the challenge and sent field technician Ben to investigate and remove the nest.
After removing a small portion of the ceiling - Ben was able to determine that the bees' nest was in fact larger than anticipated and would require immediate removal before damage was sustained to the ceiling timbers.
After 4 hours of effort, and no bee stings: the hive and bees were fully removed and the ceiling was repaired.
It was estimated that between 10-15kg of honeycomb were removed from the ceiling of this home.
